AMARA

What happened was crazy. Totally and utterly crazy. I didn’t know if I had done the wrong thing or not when it came to Levi and Silas because I couldn’t get over the super squishy emotions bursting inside me every time I thought of them.

It was their words.

Their smiles.

The way they touched me.

Everything that had happened in my room shot a swarm of butterflies to my stomach. Logically, when we’d connected nearly a week ago, I probably should have thought about our future more, but I wanted to reassure Silas when he asked me if he and Levi were who I wanted. Panic had swirled in his eyes. Not only didn’t I like his worry, but I couldn’t have ignored what was happening between us. Especially since our physical connection escalated, but even before then, a part of me held them close to my chest.

Now I knew it was because we were mates.

Mates to be bonded when I was ready for the next step, which Levi had explained when we’d eaten lunch together. It had been hard to tell him I wasn’t sure when that would be. I didn’t know if I was waiting for Kincaid or if it was something else holding me back.

Maybe it had to do with me hiding my real self from them.

Because there was a chance they wouldn’t want anything to do with me once they found out what lingered inside me.

Fear clutched my stomach, and I pressed a hand there. Silas shifted on the couch beside me. “Are you okay?”

Kincaid and Levi’s gazes snapped to me. I moved my hand off my stomach, but it wasn’t the action that Silas asked about. The color had drained from my face.

Should I tell them?

Could I possibly confide in them, share my secret, and trust that they wouldn’t want to use me as a weapon or have me sent off to be experimented on?

Not knowing made my heart heavy.

Forcing a smile, I patted Silas’s thigh as I thought better of sharing and sent a quick glance to Kincaid. “I’m fine.”

Silas frowned. He didn’t believe my lie but didn’t push either. I could feel Kincaid’s glare burning the side of my face, but I refused to look that way. Levi stood, walked around the couch I sat on with Silas, and rested his palms on my shoulders. Calm washed through me, and even more so when Silas took my hand.

“Sorry to interrupt,” I offered.

Kincaid stared at us, his annoyance clear. Silas and Levi’s openness with me, their touching me, grated on him. His fixed scowl was proof enough of that.

“It’s fine.” Levi kissed my temple just as the door to the suite opened.

Levi straightened out of my view, and I saw a gaping Mary standing in the doorway. Her eyes flicked back and forth between Levi, Silas, and me over and over. Silas had said she’d been busy with things and hadn’t had a chance to get back to see me, even though she wanted to.

“I…. Wait, what’s going on here?”

Kincaid sighed and scrubbed a hand over his face.
